This is a recreational league where the primary objective of the Youth Soccer Program is for the players to develop skills, learn good sportsmanship and above all, have fun. The emphasis is on self-improvement - to provide each player the opportunity to reach his/her own maximum potential development for the enjoyment of soccer. The emphasis is NOT on winning: each child will contribute to the “We, the Team” concept through equal and fair play.
FUNdamentals (Grade K-1) are co-ed teams. This is a two-year program where different skills are introduced and built upon each year, preparing the child for game play with referees in Division I. This year professional soccer coaches will oversee the 1-hour sessions beginning at 12:15PM (Gr K.) and 1:30PM (Gr. 1). At least 4 parent coaches are required for each session. U8/Grade 2 is co-ed, there will be separate girls and boys teams at U10, U12 & U14. There will be some local travel for children in grades 3-8. We have joined the Farmington Valley Recreation Soccer League at U10-U14 levels. Children are to be registered in their appropriate age/grade division. We are not responsible for practice or game cancellations due to conditions beyond our control.
Each child in every division is provided with a team T-shirt and team colored socks. Parents for all levels are responsible for mandatory cleats and shin guards. We recommend that each child have his/her own ball; be sure to buy the correct size (see table below) and put his/her name on it. Additionally, no jewelry of any kind including earring posts is allowed during practices and games.
The Season - Soccer season will commence with practices during the week of 8/26 and end Sat., 10/26. There is typically just one practice per week scheduled for Grade 2-U14. FUNdamentals will have Saturday-only sessions and requires that parents stay at all sessions. Games start Sat., 9/7. No games on Saturday, Oct 12th.

Fees - $80 per player for all age groups. Cost covers uniforms, equipment, coaches’ training, administration & referee coordinator fees, referees fees and other fees associated with operating the fall soccer program. Soccer scholarships are available on an as-needed basis; contact the Youth Services Department no later than 8/1 for details; all scholarship requests are strictly confidential.
Registration will be accepted online at www.GranbyRec.com, in person at the Recreation office or by mail; registrations must be received or postmarked by 4PM on Friday, August 2nd to avoid the late fee of $25.
Refunds – All refunds are subject to a 10% administrative fee. No refunds will be issued for withdrawals on or after 8/19 except for the following reasons: 1) Medical with a doctor’s note and pro-rated for the season; 2) A residence move to another town more than 30 miles away with proof and pro-rated if necessary; 3) There is a child on the waiting list; 4) 100% refund if we do not have a team for your child’s age group.
Team Assignments - Team assignments are made based on age. We do not honor team requests or moving up or down a division. Team assignments are also based on the information you give us as to night your child is NOT available for practices. We will attempt to notify you by mid-August of your team assignment. Changes in your personal schedule do not necessitate our accommodating your change.
Parent Volunteers - Parent volunteers are a vital part of our youth sports programs. Parents can assist in various ways by being coaches or assistant coaches and/or coordinators for divisions, uniforms, equipment, scheduling and referee coordinators. Scheduling – Practices are scheduled based on the availability of the coaches; team assignments are made based on the information you give us. Game schedules are based on field availability and some schedules are coordinated with other towns. We do NOT schedule around any player’s personal schedule.
